Melba Gene Armstrong

Melba Jean Armstrong

August 11, 1928 – January 18, 2026

Melba was born in Forth Worth Texas and lived more than 90 of her 97 years in the home built on the Northside by her father. Melba’s childhood church was Travis Avenue Baptist Church; she graduated from Northside High School and Texas Wesleyan University with a Marketing Degree. She started her career with Magnolia Oil Company and remained with the company through its transitions to Exxon Mobil. After her first retirement, she started a new career with Southwest Baptist Theological Seminary working in the Counseling Department. Melba grew to be an active member in North Fort Worth Baptist Church until her health prevented her full participation. Despite that fact, she always kept her strong relationship with her Lord and Savior and those she left behind take comfort knowing He welcomed her into her new life beyond this earth .Melba was always a strong, independent woman who loved Fort Worth and loved to show it off. Every visit by family started with a full itinerary of places to eat and things to see. And the visits always ended with Melba standing on the steps, waving goodbye until the car was no longer in sight. Melba was preceded in death by her parents, John and Jetta (Beaty) Armstrong, her brother and sister in law Ralph and Elizabeth (Matthews) Armstrong and her nephew Paul Armstrong. Melba’s survivors include her nephews David (Bonnie) Armstrong, James (Karen) Armstrong and niece Laura Armstrong, her great nieces Judie (Lance) Hahn, Callie (Charlie) Staley, her great nephews Chad (Kate) Armstrong and John (April) Armstrong, nine great great nieces and nephews, and two of her very dear friends Lurene Cost and Rachel Anthony. Friends and family are invited to a visitation Thursday January 22 from 10:30am to 11:30am at Calvario Funeral Chapel, 111 W Northside Drive, Fort Worth with a graveside service to follow at noon at Mt Olivet Cemetery, 2301 N Sylvania Avenue. The family extends its deepest appreciation to the staff of Homage Hospice and God’s Helping Hands Sitter Service for the love, care and respect for Melba especially during these last several months.
